Leading The Pack

CARLSBAD, Calif. - Managing an extensive network of over 150 Official Athletic Sites is no small task.
As the industry leader in the delivery of integrated multimedia solutions and internet services for University Athletic Departments, Conferences, and Associations, CBSSports.com College Network continually delivers original content, customized design and superior functionality to ensure a state-of-the-art online experience, for every school across the network.
The customized look, feel, and functionality of a cutting-edge CBSSports.com College Network site begins at ground zero in the site design and web production department. With over 25 years of combined industry experience, the Art Director and Lead Web Producer oversee a team of talented designers and producers dedicated to bringing OAS partners' visions to life.
Fun, young and wildly creative, the department cherishes "a tight team environment with constant communication and brainstorming." An interactive office space fosters a palpable creative energy while frequent collaboration and an open-door policy create a dynamic and productive work atmosphere.
As the first point of contact for prospective clients, athletic recruits, current students, employees, and alumni, a CBSSports.com College Network site needs to be distinctive and engaging. Initial site development begins with a contract agreement under the direction of the University Relations team. After a partner signs on, a kick-off call is scheduled with an assigned University Relations representative, the Lead Web Producer, Art Director, Managing Editor and Designer to discuss branding, vision, and functionality of the site.
Every year, the CBS design and production teams sit down to evolve the site build process and revisit essential questions like: how can the process be more efficient, how can it be more collaborative? Last year, the team expanded the final review process so that school partners felt comfortable making changes to mock-ups. The ultimate goal remains that all parties are thrilled with the final product.
The web design and production teams encourage partners to consider their sites from alternative perspectives and how their site might best serve different audiences. Successful new clients come to the table with a clear, well-developed vision. Active involvement and creativity from the very beginning of the process is key. The most satisfying redesigns for existing clients occur when they know their site well, use it often and have constructive, productive feedback from experience with their old site.
In total, a site's development lifecycle takes about three months; ten weeks in the design stages and two more weeks in production. To ensure CBSSports.com College Network continues to lead the industry, the design and production teams are always looking for ways to enhance site design, for better ways to build it, present it, make it faster, more efficient, and easier to use. The entire department collaborates to uncover and implement the newest advances in technology, design, and creative opportunities for revenue-generation.
With an efficient and cooperative site building process and an open, interactive working environment, the CBSSports.com College Network design and production teams consistently deliver top-quality sites to partners across the industry. Constant innovation and relentless pursuit of effective partnership keep CBSSports.com College Network ahead of the pack.
